General manager Ross Atkins confirmed the Blue Jays were “absolutely” interested in bringing back Teoscar Hernandez.

“Teo is a great teammate, great person, great player,” Atkins said Monday at the Winter Meetings in Dallas. “Certainly could be a piece to the solution.”

Hernandez, 32, is one of the more impactful hitters on the free agent market after Juan Soto agreed to terms with the New York Mets on a historic 15-year, $765 million contract.

The outfielder spent six years in Toronto and hit 129 home runs in a Blue Jays uniform. Toronto traded him to the Seattle Mariners for reliever Erik Swanson and pitching prospect Adam Macko ahead of the 2023 season.

Last year with the Dodgers, Hernandez had a career-high 33 home runs and won his third Silver Slugger award. He also won the Home Run Derby at the All-Star Game and had three home runs and 12 RBIs in the post-season as the Dodgers captured the World Series.
