Earlier this week, news surfaced about legendary head coach Bill Belichick, the future Hall of Famer and quite possibly the greatest NFL head coach of all time, interviewing for the coaching vacancy at the college level with the University of North Carolina.
This news was surprising, to say the least, with the consensus being that Belichick will be a top candidate for coaching vacancies in the NFL during the upcoming offseason, with some potentially intriguing options for the former New England Patriots leader on the sideline.
That said, the news of Belichick being interested in trying his luck on the college level was something that no one expected, and quite frankly, was a shocking development, as Chris Broussard of FOX Sports put perfectly on First Things First.
“I was shocked,” Broussard said. “This makes no sense to me whatsoever. Why in the world would Bill Belichick want to go into college football and deal with the NIL and the transfer portal? That’s why a lot of college coaches are leaving.”

If Belichick gets the job with the Tar Heels, he’ll be Mack Brown’s successor at a school known for basketball and not football, with NBA legend Michael Jordan being the face of North Carolina.
Belichick’s representation might’ve been putting out feelers in the NFL to see if he was indeed a top candidate for open jobs, like the Chicago Bears, and he didn’t like the responses he was getting.
However, there’s also a chance he’s grown tired of the NFL and wants to try something different in the latter part of his coaching career.
