The Seattle Seahawks scored a 26-21 win over the struggling New York Jets on Sunday, and that win put them into first place in the NFC West with a 7-5 record.
But it was a rough game for wide receiver Laviska Shenault Jr., who is used mainly as a kick returner.
He mishandled a couple of kick returns on Sunday, which included a fumble in the second quarter, and on Monday, the Seahawks decided to waive him, per Aaron Wilson.

Overall this season, Shenault didn’t do too badly for Seattle — he has put together 459 yards and a touchdown on 16 kick returns, as well as 36 receiving yards on five catches.
Dee Williams will presumably get more reps moving forward as their main kick returner.
Seattle has now won three games in a row, and in a bunched-up NFC West, every game is magnified for each time in the division.
While the talented but banged-up San Francisco 49ers may be essentially out of the running for the division title, the Los Angeles Rams and Arizona Cardinals, both of whom have a 6-6 record, are right in the thick of that race.
For the Seahawks, quarterback Geno Smith, who made the Pro Bowl in both of the last two seasons, is struggling, but wide receiver D.K. Metcalf has been performing well with 50 catches for 763 yards and three touchdowns.
Jaxon Smith-Njigba has emerged as a gem at the wideout spot for them with 70 catches, 829 yards and four touchdowns through 12 games, and he is certainly a cornerstone for them moving forward.
