But for Brandi, whose biological father is Tish’s ex Baxter Neal Helson, being legally adopted by Billy Ray wasn’t a “huge moment” since their family—which includes siblings Trace Cyrus, Miley Cyrus, Braison Cyrus and Noah Cyrus—was pretty much blended when the paperwork went through.
“I was a little bit older when we like did the legal thing,” she shared. “And for me, a lot of it was like, ‘Well, I want to have the same last name as my the rest of my family.’ I want to be able to put ‘Cyrus’ when I’m at school and be ‘Brandi Cyrus.'”
Besides, she noted, Billy Ray—who divorced Tish in 2022—had already been parenting her for years at that point.
“I don’t really remember it feeling like a big deal,” she said of her adoption. “I already felt like a Cyrus.”
