Days after the New York Giants released him per his own request, quarterback Daniel Jones is signing with the Minnesota Vikings.
Jones will initially be on their practice squad, which will give him options moving forward for the rest of the season.
Sam Darnold, Minnesota’s starting quarterback, who has had a bust-out season, told the media that he’s excited and looking forward to being teammates with Jones.
“Great guy. Just excited to get him in here and be teammates with him. He’s played a lot of football, so he’s going to help this football team,” said Darnold.

Jones was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, and even though he had a decent rookie season, he has been a big disappointment ever since.
There were rumblings after last season that New York wanted to move on from him, and last week, that moment finally came when they decided to bench him in favor of Tommy DeVito.
Jones may only be able to be a second-string QB from here on out, but in that capacity, he can provide the Vikings or some other team with a strong option should its QB1 go down due to an injury.
Darnold, like Jones, was a high draft pick who was thought to be a bust, but he has thrown for 2,717 yards, 21 touchdowns and 10 interceptions while leading Minnesota to a 9-2 record.
After playing for a Giants team that is largely devoid of talent, Jones will now be on a squad that has a shot at winning its division and going very far in the playoffs.
