The San Francisco 49ers had high hopes of taking the next step this year by becoming the best team in the NFC and winning the Super Bowl at season’s end, but things haven’t gone as planned, with Kyle Shanahan’s squad heading into Week 13 with a losing record of 5-6.

Much like it has for other teams around the league, injuries have been a significant issue for the 49ers, as superstar running back Christian McCaffrey has only played a few games, wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is out for the season, and plenty of notable names have been in and out of the lineup from week to week.

Last week, against the Green Bay Packers, the 49ers were without star quarterback Brock Purdy, which resulted in a 28-point blowout and the 49ers suffering their sixth loss of the 2024 campaign.

Although Purdy’s absence was noticeable, Colin Cowherd of FOX Sports isn’t convinced that the quarterback is good at what he does for San Francisco.

“He may be a great fit, he’s not a great QB. Brock Purdy doesn’t erase your mistakes. Lamar Jackson does,” Cowherd said.

It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the 49ers moving forward because, at this point, it isn’t beyond the realm of possibility that the team continues to struggle and misses the NFL playoffs altogether.

On Sunday, the 49ers will have another tough challenge on the road, as they’ll head to Highmark Stadium to take on Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills, who have won six straight games.
