The Detroit Pistons still aren’t close to being championship contenders, but they are definitely better than they were last season.

Devoted fans who have been through thick and thin are very excited about the team’s future, especially because of a few young players on the roster.

The team’s frontcourt has been celebrated by analysts, fans, and even Detroit’s own players.

Speaking with Grant Afseth, via Legion Hoops, Ivey praised his relationship with Cade Cunningham, saying, “I believe we have the talent to be one of the best backcourts ever.”

This is Ivey’s third season in the league after being selected by the Pistons as the fifth overall pick in the 2022 draft.

This year, he is putting up 18.1 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 43.1 percent from the field.

Then there is Cunningham, who is averaging 23.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 8.9 assists.

This is definitely a special and exciting partnership, but the Pistons are still struggling to make a real impact on the Eastern Conference.

They have a 7-11 record and are the 11th team in their conference.

Yes, that’s much better than where they were last year, but they obviously still have a long way to go before they’re viewed as a real, sustainable, consistent threat to other teams.

The Pistons are still laying the groundwork for a great future, and the backcourt combination of Ivey and Cunningham is a huge part of that.

They know they have something special, and they’re ready to prove it, even if they still aren’t where they want to be right now.
