When the New York Jets acquired Aaron Rodgers in a trade with the Green Bay Packers, it signaled to the rest of the NFL that they were all-in on winning a Super Bowl.

However, the trade might end up going down as one of the worst in franchise history.

Not only did Rodgers miss almost the entirety of his first year in New York due to a torn Achilles, he also has not helped them win many games during the 2024 NFL season.

Rodgers and the Jets have been a mess, compiling a 3-8 record and spiraling down a bad path.

The organization has made some drastic changes, including firing head coach Robert Saleh and general manager Joe Douglas.

Those seemed to be reactionary moves meant to try to salvage the season.

Rodgers, meanwhile, remains a large question mark, and a recent report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic said he may be benched in the coming weeks.

“It appears ‘increasingly likely’ the Jets will place Rodgers on IR or bench him over the next few weeks,” Russini said, via Bleacher Report.

Benching Rodgers seems unfathomable, considering how much the franchise has done to try to appease him, but it seems the sides are heading for a messy divorce.

If he is benched, it would be a sign that the partnership is likely over and that the four-time NFL MVP may wind up elsewhere next season.

New York will keep trying to win games, but it will be difficult to bounce back from this kind of situation.
