Sam Montembeault came out on the wrong end of a meeting between two goalies competing for spots on Team Canada.

The Montreal Canadiens pulled Montembeault during the second intermission, trailing 5-0 to the Vegas Golden Knights.

The Golden Knights scored all five goals in the second period and Montembeault left the game with 20 saves on 25 shots.

Adin Hill, who is competing with Montembeault for a role with Team Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, started at the other end of the ice. He only needed to make eight saves through two periods.

Cayden Primeau replaced Montembeault in the Canadiens net. It is the third time this season Montembeault has been pulled from a start. According to Sportsnet Stats, it was the NHL-leading fourth time Montreal has changed goalies this season.
