The NFL’s Week 12 has arrived, bringing with it the intensifying drama of playoff contention and a clearer picture of which teams are genuine contenders.

As teams find their rhythm or falter, the league’s quarterbacks are under the microscope like never before.

Patrick Peterson, the former NFL cornerback who now offers his insights on FS1, recently stirred up controversy with his top 5 quarterback rankings.

His list raised eyebrows not for who made it, but for who didn’t.

Peterson ranked Jared Goff at the top, followed by Lamar Jackson, Joe Burrow, Josh Allen, and Jalen Hurts – a lineup that notably excluded Kansas City’s Patrick Mahomes.

The omission of Mahomes sparked immediate debate on FS1’s SPEAK, where Peterson defended his controversial take.

“He’s not playing his best ball this year bro. I know they don’t gonna like that and that’s why I did it. I got to stir the pot baby,”

Peterson explained, while his co-hosts Joy Taylor, Paul Pierce, and Keyshawn Johnson pushed back against Mahomes’ exclusion.

Peterson’s assessment isn’t entirely without merit. Looking at Mahomes’ performance through 10 games reveals a more vulnerable quarterback than we’re used to seeing: a 69.5% completion rate, 2,404 passing yards, and a concerning 11 interceptions despite throwing for 15 touchdowns.

His rushing game has added modest contributions, with 167 yards and one touchdown on the ground.

The past two weeks have exposed some cracks in Kansas City’s offensive armor.

Against effective pass rushes, Mahomes has found himself scrambling more than usual, forced to rely on quick completions to keep drives alive.

Even his trademark shovel pass near the goal line hasn’t provided the usual spark. While Mahomes remained a formidable presence for most games, the Bills’ defense managed something rare – they made the Chiefs’ superstar look almost ordinary.
