Video game handhelds have seen a big resurgence in recent years. Many of these are essentially Windows gaming machines, such as the Asus ROG Ally X. This is the enhanced model that launched in 2024, which boasts higher RAM and double the battery life. Arriving at an asking price of $800, the first $100 discount to date has been applied at Best Buy. That means you can pick up the Asus handheld console for $700 as part of Black Friday sales.
Capable of playing games on the go or hooking up to a big TV, the Asus ROG Ally X can perform 1080p video quality on a seven-inch screen at a 120Hz refresh rate, all powered by an AMD Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor. Next to this, it comes with 24GB RAM, a 1TB SSD as well as a humongous 80-watt battery that will run for an intensive three to four hours without charge.

CNET senior editor Lori Grunin gave a positive review of the Asus ROG Ally X, summarising their thoughts: “I like the Ally X, and if you want to play light- to middleweight Windows games that aren’t from Steam and can comfortably afford the $800, it’s probably your best bet”.
While only available in a black design, the good news is that the original Asus ROG Ally comes in white and has been discounted too. Originally $650, the slightly thinner model is up for grabs at $500. It sports the same great seven-inch display and Z1 processor but has 512GB of storage and only one USB-C port instead of two. If you’re happy with that difference, then this is an extra $200 you can use for games instead.
Why this deal matters
This is the lowest price we’ve seen for the Asus ROG Ally X since the console launched in July earlier this year. In the months it’s been on store shelves, discounts have been incredibly sparse with this $100 price cut being the most significant. With that, it’s a great excuse to treat yourself or someone close who enjoys playing Steam titles. Maybe a treat for the holidays?
