Manchester United is reportedly looking to make a move for Victor Osimhen in a deal that could see struggling Red Devils striker Joshua Zirkee move in the opposite direction. Osimhen joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli at the start of September. Since then, he has played over nine matches for the club, scoring over eight goals and registering four assists.
The Nigerian international will move back to Naples after his loan spell expires during the summer; however, there are rumours that his loan move will end in January itself.
Osimhen was axed from the Napoli squad after failing to secure a transfer away from the Italian club. Despite interest from an array of European clubs, such as Chelsea FC and PSG, a transfer failed to materialise.
There were offers coming from Saudi Arabia as well, but Osimhen made it crystal clear that he still wants to play European football.
Manchester United are looking to add more teeth to their frontline?
Red Devils strikers Rasmus Holland and Joshua Zirkee have failed to make a considerable impact on the frontline, scoring only three goals between them during the current season.
Zirkzee has not scored since the opening matchday of the 2024-25 Premier League season, while Hojlund has only scored once this term in England’s top flight.
The Premier League giants would want to add more firepower to their attacking lineup in their quest to move up the table and solidify their prospects of securing European football for the next season.
According to journalist Gerardo Fasano (via Area Napoli), the new Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim is looking to recruit Osimhen. Osimhen has a contract with his parent club until the summer of 2026.
“Manchester United is said to be on the trail of Victor Osimhen. I have been told that the English, through mister Amorim, could include the former Bologna striker Zirkzee in the negotiations for Osimhen,” he said.
Sporting Lisbon’s Gyokeres is also on United’s radar. However, plotting a move for the player could be difficult as the Portuguese club would demand a hefty transfer fee for the star striker.
Among the options United has, they would choose to pursue a deal for Osimhen. However, they would face stiff competition from clubs like Chelsea and Arsenal, which are also looking to sign the Nigerian international.
