For Mike Tyson, just getting into the ring with Jake Paul was considered an accomplishment.
Tyson, 58, “nearly died,” underwent eight blood transfusions and lost 25 pounds after a health incident earlier this year, he said on social media on Saturday.
“This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in ring one last time,” Tyson wrote.
“To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish eight rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”
The Tyson-Paul bout was initially scheduled to take place in July, but was postponed in June after Tyson said he suffered an “ulcer flare-up” on a flight the month prior.
In a Netflix series chronicling the lead-up to the fight, Tyson said his weight loss occurred over an 11-day span during which he was only able to consume liquids.
When the much-hyped fight finally came to fruition on Friday, the 27-year-old Paul won by unanimous decision.
In a reply, Paul said it was an “honour” to get in the ring with Tyson.
