Canadian fruit and vegetable supplier Mucci Farms has acquired Greenhill Produce, a greenhouse facility specialising in bell pepper production.

The financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

Mucci Farms said the deal would boost its “presence and ability” to cater to retail, wholesale and foodservice customers.

Founded in 2000, Greenhill Produce is based in Kent Bridge, Ontario, and began as a six-acre greenhouse.

It has since become a “premier greenhouse grower”, known for its farming practices and “cutting-edge advanced robotics and automation”, Mucci Farms said.

Mucci Farms will continue to cultivate bell peppers at the facility. CEO Bert Mucci said: “We have had the privilege of working closely with Greenhill for many years, so we know firsthand the exceptional quality of both their facilities and their crops.

“Bringing Greenhill into the Mucci family enhances our supply chain to offer more reliable supply for our partners.”

The acquisition follows Mucci Farms’ purchase of Hacienda Farms, a 160-acre facility in Coatsworth, Ontario, in May.

Cox Enterprises, a US conglomerate with diverse interests, invested in Mucci Farms in 2022.

Mucci Farms now operates over 650 acres of greenhouses in Canada and the US, growing produce such as tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, strawberries and lettuce.

Cox Farms president Steve Bradley said: “This acquisition marks an exciting new chapter for Cox Farms as we continue to build our vision of sustainable, high-quality food production across North America.

“Bringing Greenhill into the larger Cox Farms family allows us to strengthen Mucci’s capacity to support our partners with a more reliable supply of fresh produce. Together, we are not just expanding our reach but reinforcing our commitment to innovation and excellence in agriculture.”
