Yashasvi Jaiswal will be one of India’s key batsmen ahead of their crucial test series against Australia.
The India opener, known for his aggressive approach to the game, will be looking to dominate the Australian bowlers.
Ahead of the Border-Gavaskar series, Nathan McSweeney will debut as an opener for Australia.
Yashasvi Jaiswal looks to continue fine Test form
Yashasvi Jaiswal will be looking to continue his fine form in Test match cricket. The Indian opener averages 56 opening the batting. Having already scored three centuries so far, the Rajasthan Royals player will look to add to that total. With an aggressive mindset, Jaiswal will target Australia’s key bowlers early to put them under pressure.
With India captain Rohit Sharma and key batsmen Virat Kohli struggling in the longest form of the game, the emphasis will be on Yashasvi Jaiswal to provide the runs. Earlier this year, Jaiswal dominated the English bowlers and will be the key man for India as they look to retain the Border-Gavaskar trophy. On the other hand, it will be no easy test as Australia captain Pat Cummins looks to lead his side to victory.
Australia will look to target Jaiswal early on in his innings due to the lack of footwork by the opener. Speaking on Fox Cricket, former England captain Michael Vaughan said, “This is a young player that could be that next great. You look at the great players from the past twenty/thirty years. They all could make good bowlers look very average.”
“The one area of his game that we’re looking forward to seeing is if Jaiswal can play in Australia. He likes to throw his hands at the fuller delivery. However, here in Australia where the ball bounces, I would think Captain Pat would pack that slip cordon and try to get some catches. However, if he gets away here next week in Perth, we could be looking at a bit of fun with him.”
Nathan McSweeney set to debut for Australia
Having been selected for Australia, Nathan McSweeney looks set to open for his country. India has two set openers, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma. Australia have struggled since the retirement of David Warner. Steven Smith was initially promoted to cover Warner’s departure. However, that hasn’t worked well with the former captain struggling for runs.
An injury to Cameron Green has led to Smith moving back to his preferred position at four. McSweeney, who has traditionally batted for South Australia at three, is now expected to open the batting with Usman Khawaja. However, with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj expected to open the bowling for India, the debutant faces a tough task on his first outing for Australia.
