The New England Patriots might have themselves a star in the making under center in the form of rookie quarterback Drake Maye.

He is coming off of guiding the Pats to a massive road win over the Chicago Bears last Sunday.

Although it hasn’t always been pretty, Maye’s play has helped him earn the respect of his team and former Patriots players.

Speaking of former Patriots players, former longtime Patriots backup quarterback Brian Hoyer recently spoke with Patriots insider Tom E. Curran about Maye’s leadership style.

“As a quarterback, you have to take ownership of everything. He comes across as a very humble person,” Hoyer said Wednesday morning on Tom Curran’s Patriots Talk Podcast.

Hoyer also noted what it was like playing with Tom Brady and how his level of humility was very similar to Maye’s.

This Patriots team might not make the playoffs this year, but with Maye leading the way, they look like they could be in good hands for a long time.

In six games this season, the No. 3 overall pick has shown plenty of promise despite adversity.

He has completed 64.7% of his passes and thrown seven touchdowns, along with five interceptions.

But his 84.1 passer rating and his rushing average of 9.3 are proof that the former North Carolina Tar Heel has the talent to be successful for a long time.

Pats fans will see Maye next against the Los Angeles Rams at home this Sunday afternoon.
