The Boston Celtics have to feel confident about where they stand so far in the 2024-25 NBA season as they look well on their way to repeating as champions.
Even though they are dealing with some injuries, the Celtics have the most balanced roster in the league and have already racked up some blowout wins.
Boston is the clear class of the Eastern Conference, and it’ll be interesting to see if any team is able to stand up to it once the playoffs roll around.
Meanwhile, supposed contenders like the Milwaukee Bucks are floundering and trying to find their identity.
Former Celtics head coach Doc Rivers has struggled to get his current Bucks team going on both ends of the floor, though he’s got some help on his bench with Rajon Rondo as an assistant.
Former Boston star Paul Pierce recently discussed Rondo’s move to the sidelines with his 2008 championship teammate.
“Rondo, I always knew was going to get into the coaching game,” Pierce said, via All the Smoke Productions. “… It’s not surprising, for me, to know that you eventually will, one day, be a coach.”

Doc Rivers called him “the smartest player [he’s] ever coached.”
Rondo joined the Bucks as guest coach during training camp and is expected to continue in that role throughout the season.

During his playing days, Rondo was lauded as one of the smartest players in the league because he always seemed to know what plays teams were running and where players should be on the floor.
A point guard is considered the extension of the coaching staff, and Rondo played that role perfectly.
As Pierce mentioned, it’s no surprise that Rondo is now on an NBA bench, and it seems like just a matter of time until he’s a head coach somewhere in the league.
