There will soon be an emotional night for Golden State Warriors fans.

For the first time since leaving the team, Klay Thompson will be back at Chase Center when the Dallas Mavericks arrive for an NBA Cup game.

Of course, the Warriors have something special prepared to honor one of their all-time greats.

“The Warriors will give out captain’s hats to honor Klay in his return to Golden State Tuesday night. They’re calling it a ‘Salute To Captain Klay’ in honor of his love of boat rides on San Francisco Bay,” insider Marc Stein reported, via Bleacher Report.

The team also likely has a tribute video ready to recall all the great nights Thompson had with the organization.

The veteran repeatedly talked about his desire to be a Warrior for life, but unfortunately, that isn’t the case.

Though he had another good season last year, he looked unhappy at times, and he didn’t like the way the team dealt with his contract situation.

Thompson wound up betting on himself and joined another championship contender to prove that he’s still got plenty left in the tank.

He’s thrived as the Mavericks’ third scoring option behind Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving, averaging 14.2 points per game on 43.1 percent shooting from the floor, and he looks like a bargain right now.

The Warriors would never have been a dynasty without Thompson, and fans will show him plenty of love when he goes back home.

In addition, he’s definitely going to be highly motivated to put on a show against his former team.
