How Kevin Costner Is Still Central to Yellowstone Finale After Exit

Kevin Costner will always be a part of Yellowstone Ranch.

Four months after the actor confirmed he was exiting Yellowstone, the show’s director Christina Voros shared how his character John Dutton will remain a necessary part of the show’s final episodes when part two of season five premieres Nov. 10.

“His presence is integral,” she told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview published Nov. 5. “I think to say any more than that would potentially compromise all the work that went into redacting the scripts! But I think the reason people are wondering, ‘Is he, isn’t he? Where is he, where is he not?’ is because he is the patriarch and his presence is an essential component of the story.”

When it comes to the role of Kevin’s character in the Paramount series, she simply added, “John Dutton is still central.”

As for what filming was like without Kevin, who portrayed the sixth-generation Dutton to own the sprawling ranch for four-and-a-half seasons, the show’s director remained coy.

“I don’t know if we were without him,” she noted. “I don’t know!”
