Over the past decade or so, the NFL has made an effort to make the game of football as safe as possible for its players in order to avoid long-term injuries that can impact the quality of life long after their playing careers come to an end.
There have been a ton of rule changes over the years, especially when it comes to protecting quarterbacks, who barely get touched these days and, more often than not, can play much longer, with Tom Brady being the perfect example as he played until he was 45.
Along with quarterbacks getting protected by new rules, pass catchers have also benefited, but these rules are far from perfect, and injuries still happen on a weekly basis.
On Sunday, New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave went down with an injury, which former NFL quarterback Robert Griffin III thinks could’ve been avoided, as he took to his X account to express his frustration with quarterbacks in today’s game putting their receivers in danger.
“All right people, that’s it,” Griffin said. “I’ve had enough. Quarterbacks are throwing way too many hospital balls in the NFL now.”
Throwing WRs hospital balls is NEVER OKAY.
Hate to see what happened to Chris Olave and we as QBs have to stop doing it.
It has become even more of a thing in the NFL because DBs can’t hit WRs the way they could 10 years ago.

This message seems to be directed at Saints quarterback Derek Carr, and Griffin isn’t the only one who criticized the veteran signal-caller as former Saints wide receiver Michael Thomas blasted his former quarterback after watching this injury.
Ultimately, the Saints lost to the division-rival Carolina Panthers and seem to be headed for a disappointing end to the 2024 NFL season.
