You don’t often see 2-6 teams looking to buy at the NFL trade deadline, but according to a recent report, that is what the New England Patriots are doing.
Even though most would assume the Patriots would be selling, they reportedly are looking for help at one key position.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, the Pats are searching for help at offensive tackle, via Savage Sports.

The Patriots are on the trade market searching for help at offensive tackle.
They are looking to add at that position.

New England would like to improve one of the team’s weakest areas in order to give rookie quarterback Drake Maye more protection.
The No. 3 overall pick from the 2024 NFL Draft has looked promising since taking over as the starting quarterback, but he was sacked seven times in his three starts, and he was knocked him out of the game against the New York Jets with a concussion suffered while scrambling.
So, though the Pats may not be looking to compete for a playoff spot, if they have any intention of competing in the future, that starts with protecting Maye and keeping him upright.
The problem is that trading for a reliable offensive tackle is often difficult, as any strong player at that important position is not somebody a team would look to trade away.
It will be interesting to see if the Pats can find success in this reported pursuit, as it’s a smart move that shouldn’t negatively impact their rebuilding trajectory.
The offensive line is a collective mess, and left tackle Vederian Lowe and left guard Mike Jordan are questionable for the Week 9 matchup against the Tennessee Titans, as is Maye with his concussion.
