Leadership is very important, especially in the world of sports, where a sound game plan is needed to win, both for players and for organizations as a whole.
The New York Jets are a franchise that has been thought of as something of an embarrassment for about the past 50 years, and it was thought that the arrival of Aaron Rodgers would change that.
Instead, the Jets held a 2-6 record going into Week 9 of the 2024 NFL season, and even the addition of star wide receiver Davante Adams, Rodgers’ former teammate on the Green Bay Packers, hadn’t helped.
From top to bottom, the Jets organization seems to have problems, and prior to the “Thursday Night Football” game against the Houston Texans, one NFL insider talked about the unhealthy environment the owner has created.
“Owner Woody Johnson badly wants to win. He sunk resources into making that happen. But he’s also created an environment that the people there don’t feel like is all that conducive to actually accomplishing that. That’s because he listens to too many non-football people on football matters. He pays too much attention to what’s going on on the internet, and that’s led to what people there feel like is an unpredictable boss,” Albert Breer said on “TNF Tonight.”

New York, on paper, has plenty of talent on both sides of the football, but it definitely hasn’t translated into results, and there is plenty of blame to go around.
Some have blamed Johnson for a number of things, and some now may feel the decision to trade for Rodgers, who is 40 years old, was a big mistake, especially because the Jets gave up four draft picks to get him.
Rodgers has also gotten plenty of criticism, and there is a feeling he was the man behind the firing of head coach Robert Saleh a few weeks ago and that Johnson is catering to his whims.
The quarterback is under contract for one more year after this one, and it will be interesting to see if the Jets are able to get out of this quagmire.
