Although the Green Bay Packers have a 6-2 record and are on a four-game winning streak, Jordan Love, their young and promising quarterback, is dealing with a groin injury right now.

Love wants to play in this Sunday’s big showdown versus the 6-1 Detroit Lions, but he didn’t practice on Wednesday.

ESPN analyst Andrew Hawkins said that Love should sit out this weekend’s contest because he and his team need to play the long game.

Love didn’t play in most of the second half of the Packers’ win over the Jacksonville Jaguars this past Sunday, but an MRI reportedly didn’t show any significant damage.

However, groin injuries can be tricky, as the groin is a large muscle and playing with such an ailment could aggravate it or lead to another injury.

After a shaky start to this season, which included an MCL injury he sustained in Week 1, Love had been playing rather well lately, but he is tied for the NFL lead in interceptions right now with nine.

He has thrown for 1,547 yards and 15 touchdowns in six games so far in 2024.

Many have tabbed Love as the league’s next truly great quarterback after he finished last season, his first as a starter, with a flurry, but perhaps it is time to tap the brakes a bit on those expectations.

Still, if Green Bay is healthy, they should have at least a puncher’s chance of winning the NFC, although their true Super Bowl contention window likely hasn’t opened yet.
