Marina Stakusic is one win away from her first career WTA Tour title.
The Canadian teen upset No. 6 seed and world No. 112 Sara Sorribes Tormo 7-6 (3), 7-6 (0) in the semifinals of Abierto Tampico on Friday in Mexico.
The 19-year-old Stakusic, ranked 140th in the world, will face No. 5 seed and world No. 85 Anna Blinkova of Russia in the final on Saturday.
Blinkova beat Vancouver’s Rebecca Marino 7-6 (8), 6-7 (4), 6-2 in the other semifinal.
The unheralded Stakusic made headlines late last year when she helped Canada win the Billie Jean King Cup.
Stakusic, from Mississauga, Ont., qualified for her first career Grand Slam earlier this year at Wimbledon.
Blinkova, 26, has one career tournament title, prevailing at a tournament in Romania two years ago.
Abierto Tampico is a WTA Tour 125 event, the lowest category for tour-level events.
