The Cleveland Cavaliers’ strong start to the season has turned heads, particularly after their commanding 136-106 victory over the Toronto Raptors.

While the win itself was impressive, Evan Mobley’s season debut emerged as the night’s biggest storyline, fueling discussions about his potential leap from reliable starter to genuine NBA star.

The offseason buzz surrounding Mobley’s development appears justified.

His trajectory has caught the attention of NBA analyst and former player Eddie Johnson, who believes Donovan Mitchell should begin sharing more offensive responsibilities with the emerging forward.

“You are just not the guy and that is what he has to succumb to,” Johnson stated about Mitchell.

“Donovan Mitchell is tired of being out, first round, second round, he wants to go further. Well, I think, Evan Mobley could be your ticket.”

The numbers support Mobley’s growth trajectory. His advanced metrics show steady improvement across key categories – player efficiency rating, true shooting percentage, and win shares per minute continue to climb.

While he’s proven himself defensively alongside Jarrett Allen, Mobley’s offensive role remains an area of untapped potential.

Despite his progress, Mobley’s usage rate has stayed relatively constant, accounting for just over 20% of the team’s offense.

Playing alongside scoring threats like Mitchell and Darius Garland has limited his offensive opportunities, particularly given his developing jump shot.

Through his first 198 regular-season games, Mobley attempted just 253 three-pointers, averaging barely one per game last season.

The Cavaliers envision an expanded role for Mobley, with coach Atkinson looking to transform the team’s floor spacing.

While this evolution won’t happen overnight, the foundation for change appears set.

The question now becomes not if, but when Mobley will fully embrace this enhanced role in Cleveland’s offensive scheme.
