Not so long ago, the New England Patriots were the most feared team in all of football.
The Bill Belichick-Tom Brady tandem had the National Football League in a chokehold for two decades.
Of course, the fans got used to a certain standard and level of excellence.
That’s why the past couple of years have been so tough to watch for them, and Robert Kraft made it loud and clear that not even Belichick would be safe if they didn’t start winning some football games.
That’s also why it seems like Bill Simmons just can’t take it anymore.
Midway through the game vs. the Jacksonville Jaguars, the renowned analyst took to X to rip Jerod Mayo’s team.
This is the worst-coached Pats team since Rod Rust. They play all the hits every week — dumb penalties, drops, special teams mistakes, incredibly poor play calling. Each week is worse than the last. You get what you pay for.

He claimed that this is the worst-coached Patriots team he’s seen since Rod Rust.
Simmons added that this team “plays all the hits every week,” calling them out for their dumb penalties, drops, poor play-calling, and mistakes on special teams.
He also stated that “you get what you pay for,” so he clearly wasn’t high on Kraft’s decision to roll with Belichick’s heir apparent.
Growing pains are always to be expected with first-year coaches.
The Patriots reportedly always intended Mayo to take the reins from Belichick once the time came, so this wasn’t a rash decision at all.
They weren’t expected to compete at a high level this season, so as worrisome as some things could be, this will also be a learning experience for Mayo to get better for the future.
