The Chicago Bears’ lackluster 1-2 start has left fans scratching their heads, especially when it comes to the underutilization of star receiver DJ Moore.

Despite his hefty four-year, $110 million contract, Moore’s production has been surprisingly low, averaging just 55 yards per game with only 19 receptions in the first three games.

It seems like inconsistent quarterback play and a muddled offensive strategy are holding him back.

ESPN analyst Tom Waddle didn’t mince words when calling out the Bears for their misuse of Moore’s talents.

“Average depth of target. He’s like 72nd out of 95 qualified wide receivers. I know you want to get the ball in his hands and let him make hay, but the bubble screens and the quick outs fine. You need to start using your best receiver down the field,” Waddle said on ESPN 1000.

With the recent addition of Caleb Williams to the roster, pressure is mounting on the coaching staff to maximize their offensive weapons, Moore included.

The fear of continued underperformance looms large as the season progresses.

To truly unlock Moore’s potential, the Bears need to get creative.

Looking back at his impressive 2023 season – 96 catches, 1,364 yards, and 8 touchdowns – it’s clear that increasing his target share could be a game-changer.

This means designing plays specifically for Moore and moving him around the formation to exploit mismatches.

If they can tap into the skills that earned him that big contract, it could be the key to turning their season around.
