The Minnesota Vikings have kicked off the 2024 NFL season notching impressive wins against the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers.
Their recent 23-17 victory over the 49ers at home showcased the team’s all-around prowess, with the defense stealing the spotlight.
Under new defensive coordinator Brian Flores, the revamped unit has displayed remarkable depth and versatility, becoming a cornerstone of the Vikings’ early success.
Defensive tackle Harrison Phillips recently shared his thoughts on NFL Network, shedding light on the team’s winning formula.
“I think that we have a lot of very disciplined, unselfish players. So, when you’re playing for the guy next to you, you just have a little extra chip on your shoulder and a little more gas in the tank,” Phillips explained.

He went on to highlight the unique makeup of the Vikings roster, noting that many players have faced adversity in their careers and lives.
“We have guys who’ve been overlooked, not always counted among the best in the league. So, you just have dawgs that are constantly wanting to prove themselves, prove to others, prove to this team.”
Phillips believes this collective chip on their shoulders, combined with strong leadership and thoughtful roster additions, has been key to their early success.
On the offensive side, quarterback Sam Darnold has risen to the challenge, demonstrating efficiency and poise in his new role.
Despite temporary absences of key playmakers like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison due to injuries, Darnold has managed the game effectively.
Vikings fans are taking notice, too.
The team’s chemistry seems to be gelling rapidly, with new additions seamlessly integrating into the Vikings’ system.
