The Carolina Panthers, fresh off the decision to bench struggling quarterback Bryce Young in favor of veteran Andy Dalton, have made two additional roster moves.

According to the team’s site, they have signed back veteran tight end Jordan Matthews to the practice squad.

Also, after being cut by the Los Angeles Rams, Carolina signed safety Russ Yeast to the practice squad as well.

Matthews is the bigger name of the two.

For those who don’t remember, Matthews broke onto the NFL scene as a wide receiver for the Philadelphia Eagles.

He caught 85 passes for 997 yards and eight touchdowns back in 2015.

The former Vanderbilt star had three 800-yard seasons with the Eagles.

After playing the 2021 season with the San Francisco 49ers, the former All-American made the decision to switch from wide receiver to tight end.

He has yet to catch a pass as a tight end in the NFL.

With Russ Yeast, the former Ram was a seventh-round pick out of Kansas State in 2022 by L.A.

The former All-Big 12 performer started in 10 games for head coach Sean McVay over his first two seasons and carved out a nice role for himself as a depth piece.

The best season of his young career came in 2022 when he put up 61 total tackles and five pass deflections.

Now, Carolina gets another defensive back with plenty of starting experience on a team that could certainly use it.

Time will tell if and when either of these players can be added to the 53-man roster at some point in time.
