Teams in the NFL don’t often have a game with true playoff implications in Week 2, but that is what the Miami Dolphins are facing when they host the Buffalo Bills on “Thursday Night Football.”

Given the parity in the AFC East, the race for the division title and an automatic playoff spot could ultimately hinge on the result of this game.

Both of the Dolphins’ main running backs — Raheem Mostert and De’Von Achane — have been banged up, and Mostert was ruled out due to a chest injury.

Achane, who has been dealing with an ankle ailment, was said to be a game-time decision and will be playing against Buffalo, according to Cameron Wolfe of NFL Network.

Last season, Achane was one of the more impressive rookies in the NFL, and although his year was cut short by a knee injury, he ran for 800 yards and eight touchdowns while adding 27 catches for 197 yards and three touchdowns in 11 games.

His speed — he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.32 seconds prior to the 2023 NFL Draft — is something to behold, and at Texas A&M University he had 1,102 rushing yards, eight rushing touchdowns and three receiving touchdowns in 2022.

He went on to help the Dolphins finish first in rushing touchdowns, yards per rush attempt and overall yards last season.

In their Week 1 win against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Achane had just 24 rushing yards but caught seven passes for 76 yards and had a rushing touchdown.

He is sure to be a sizable key to Miami’s chances of defeating Josh Allen and crew.
