The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t budge.
Superstar wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase tried to get a new contract, and the team drew a line in the sand.
According to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report, a contract extension isn’t expected to happen before the season opener.
Sources: A deal between Ja’Marr Chase and the #Bengals is “not expected” to happen. After months of negotiations, the two sides couldn’t bridge the gap, and Cincinnati was unwilling to compromise.

Schultz adds that after months of negotiations, both parties couldn’t bridge the gap, and the team was just unwilling to compromise.
He also claimed that Chase was undecided about playing vs. the New England Patriots because he was dealing with an illness.
Chase was reportedly looking to become the highest-paid wide receiver in the game.
Reports claimed that he wanted to top his former LSU teammate, Justin Jefferson, even if it was by a single penny.
Needless to say, he will have more than enough opportunities to do so when his time comes, but he didn’t have that much leverage because he still has two years left in his contract.
Player empowerment is great and necessary, but there’s a difference between knowing one’s worth and just looking to please our ego.
Chase skipped some of training camp and practice instead of being out there with his teammates to get ready for the season, looking to get a deal even though it wasn’t his turn to do so.
He’ll get his money, but he’ll have to keep on earning it.
