Blue Jays’ Addison Barger avoids major injury after exiting Tuesday’s game

In a season plagued by injuries, the Toronto Blue Jays seem to have dodged a big one with Addison Barger.

The Toronto utility man has reportedly avoided a major injury, Sportsnet’s Arden Zwelling and Shi Davidi reported ahead of Wednesday’s tilt against the Philadelphia Phillies.

Barger was injured during the seventh inning of Tuesday night’s game against the Phillies, exiting the outing with what the team called left knee discomfort.

According to Zwelling, the 24-year-old started feeling the discomfort after making a double play in the fourth inning and the pain worsened as the game went on.

After the game, Barger was unsure as to whether or not he was going to get medical imaging, but Davidi reported that the Blue Jays opted to forgo it as swelling in the knee went down on its own.

Davidi added that there’s a chance Barger may be available to the Blue Jays in a reduced role on Wednesday.

Barger is currently putting up .211/.247/.410 batting splits with seven home runs and 26 RBIs in 171 plate appearances for the club this season.
