Ben Roethlisberger is a legend within the Pittsburgh Steelers organization.

He was one of the best quarterbacks in franchise history and held down the fort at a difficult position for nearly 20 years.

The Steelers were one of the best teams in the AFC during Roethlisberger’s tenure, but they have struggled to compete at a high level in recent seasons.

Not having a future Hall of Fame quarterback under center can have that impact.

While there are concerns about the Steelers quarterback room heading into the 2024 campaign, Roethlisberger pointed to another position that could be in trouble.

As he mentioned in his podcast, “My concern is what’s behind George [Pickens] at receiver. You got rid of Diontae Johnson.”

Diontae Johnson was a reliable pass-catcher in this offense, somebody the Steelers could rely on.

Now that he’s with the Carolina Panthers, they must find someone else to step up as WR2.

Van Jefferson is listed as the second receiver on their depth chart, followed by Calvin Austin III.

Jefferson has shown some flashes at times, but not enough to have confidence in him to have a big-time role.

Austin is also unproven, so seeing if he can step up and make a decent impact on this team’s chances will be interesting.

The Steelers have a lot of work to do if they want to get back to being a contender.

Can they put all the pieces together and find unexpected contributors on offense?
