It’s always heartwarming to see a homegrown kid make the NFL team he grew up rooting for.
That’s why Joe Andreessen’s history has been so relatable.
With that in mind, his girlfriend shared an emotional post on Instagram to celebrate the fact that, against all odds, he made it to his beloved Buffalo Bills.
“How it’s going vs how it started… and all that in between. Sooo proud of you! You are so incredible and an inspiration for everyone around you. Can’t wait to see what’s to come baby. Now more than ever… GO BILLS,” she wrote on Instagram.
Needless to say, not many scouts had the undersized linebacker from the University of Buffalo at the top of their lists.
The 24-year-old tried out for his hometown team after going undrafted, earning a spot in their minicamp and, eventually, on their 53-man roster.
The Depew, NY, native was very impressive during the preseason as well.
Given his upbringing as a local fan, he became a fan favorite almost right away.
Of course, this is just the beginning of his journey, and there’s a big difference between just making the 53-man roster and actually staying in the league.
Even so, he’s shown to have a very strong work ethic, and he clearly had the determination to beat the odds and never allow himself to be outworked by any other bigger, more talented, or more highly-touted player in training camp or the preseason.
Now, he might get his first opportunity to get a taste of some actual NFL action when the Bills kick off the 2024 season with a date with the Arizona Cardinals.
Hopefully, this won’t be the end of this heartwarming story, and he’ll have a long and successful career in the league, preferably with his beloved Bills.
