San Francisco 49ers rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall was shot in an attempted robbery on Saturday.

The incident was first reported by ABC7’s Dion Lim and later confirmed by San Francisco police and the mayor.

According to a statement from SFPD, officers responded to the area of Geary St. and Grant Ave. on the report of a shooting. There, they found two male subjects suffering from injuries and both were brought to a local hospital for further medical evaluation.

They added that during the robbery, there was a physical altercation that led to both the suspect and Pearsall being injured. The suspect is in custody and charges are pending.

“This afternoon, there was an attempted robbery in Union Square involving San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ricky Pearsall and he was shot,” San Francisco mayor London Breed posted to X on Saturday. “SFPD was on scene immediately and an arrest of the shooter was made. My thoughts are with Ricky and his family at this time. We will provide more updates, including on his condition, as I receive them.”

Neither the police report nor the statement from Mayor Breed elaborated on his condition, however, an earlier report from Lim clarified that Pearsall is stable. She also added that he was apparently at a high-end designer store not long before the incident.

Pearsall, 23, was selected by the 49ers 31st overall in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He played college football for the Arizona State Sun Devils and Florida Gators.

More to come.
