After all the speculation, the Cleveland Browns held on to all of their quarterbacks to start the season.
Deshaun Watson, Jameis Winston, Tyler Huntley, and Dorian Thompson-Robinson all survived the roster cut deadline.
The Browns know firsthand how important it is to have plenty of depth at the most crucial position in the game, as they had to start five different quarterbacks last season.
Nevertheless, perhaps they could be better off moving one of their signal-callers to address other areas.
With that in mind, NFL insider Josina Anderson pointed out a rather interesting theory.
Well there was one report out of Cleveland today that was barely discussed nationally, that I found pretty curious in how casually it was regarded: @MaryKayCabot report on the #Browns fielding calls today for QB Jameis Winston.
The same Winston that went 5-2 under Sean Payton…

Browns’ insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that the Browns were fielding trade calls for Winston and Huntley.
So, with the Denver Broncos’ current QB room, she hinted at Sean Payton potentially making a run at the former No. 1 pick, as they actually had some success together during their stint with the New Orleans Saints.
Of course, it makes sense on paper.
The fact that the Browns fielded calls for their QB2 makes it seem like they’re not as high on him as people originally thought.
Also, Winston would be a great veteran to help with Bo Nix’s development, not to mention a massive upgrade over both Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson.
The Browns held onto all of their quarterbacks because they knew they had little leverage to move them.
Still, they are all good enough to be claimed off waivers almost immediately if they cut them, so they wouldn’t be able to bring them back to their practice squad.
But now that the deadline has passed, we can’t rule out a trade.
