The Denver Broncos are building forward instead of trying to hold onto a shred of respectability by naming rookie Bo Nix their starter at quarterback.
While Jarrett Stidham is seemingly entrenched as their QB2, they decided to keep Zach Wilson as a third quarterback when they were required to make their final roster cuts on Tuesday.
While many have doubted Wilson’s ability to play at a serviceable level, Broncos general manager George Paton made a bold statement by saying that he thinks “he’ll be a starter in this league,” per Andrew Mason.

Wilson had an outstanding junior year at Brigham Young University, and he was the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft by the New York Jets.
There were high expectations for him as he came into the pros, and the Jets hoped he would be their long-awaited savior, but he has instead turned into a bust.
He threw for nine touchdowns and 11 interceptions while completing only 55.6 percent of his passes as a rookie, and his production in his second year wasn’t any better.
In 2023, after Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles on New York’s first offensive series, Wilson again became their starter, but he struggled for most of the season.
After he suffered a concussion late in the season, he was traded to Denver along with a seventh-round pick for a sixth-round pick.
Denver, of course, has been looking for its own savior ever since the legendary Peyton Manning retired following their win in Super Bowl 50, and ever since, they have suffered through the play of one inadequate QB after another.
After future Hall of Famer Russell Wilson failed to measure up over the last two seasons, they’re hoping 2024 will be a true stepping stone toward a legitimate franchise revival.
