Andy Reid has been an NFL head coach for a long time, dating back to when the Philadelphia Eagles hired him for the 1999 season, but in his time with the Kansas City Chiefs, his stature has grown considerably.
He finally won a Super Bowl championship in the 2019 season, and in the past two seasons added two more Vince Lombardi Trophies.
It has been a sort of vindication for him after suffering a number of difficult playoff losses in his 14 seasons with the Eagles and his first several years with Kansas City.
Former NFL quarterback Nick Foles, who played one year under Reid in Philadelphia, said the coach is successful because he creates an environment where there is plenty of discipline but players are also allowed to have fun and let their personalities show.
“He has found that balance, but that’s because every day Andy demands that,” Foles said on “Green Light with Chris Long.”

Foles also said that Reid creates a culture of accountability, and that extends to even his best players, something some coaches do not do.
One commonality of championship-winning teams in all sports is a winning culture where there is accountability, where players have enough freedom to be themselves within the confines of a structure and system, and where players enjoy working with and playing for each other.
Before the Chiefs won it all in the 2019 campaign, they had been competitive for many years but lacked that special something needed to win their first world championship since 1969.
Reid has given them that, as they have made the playoffs in all but one of his 11 seasons as their head coach.
Once he promoted a second-year quarterback named Patrick Mahomes to the starting spot over Alex Smith, the sky became the limit for the Chiefs, and now they’re going for an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat.
