Before pulling off a blockbuster trade to acquire quarterback Aaron Rodgers from the Green Bay Packers last year, the New York Jets were thought to already have one of the best defenses in the league, led by stars Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams.

With the defense among the elite in the NFL, the addition of Rodgers was thought to be the missing piece of the championship puzzle in New York, especially with wide receiver Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall as emerging young players with bright futures.

Unfortunately for the Jets, Rodgers suffered a season-ending Achilles injury in Week 1 against the division-rival Buffalo Bills, which changed the entire outlook for the 2023 campaign.

The Jets went on to win just seven games and miss the NFL playoffs while also facing many questions about whether they could compete with or without Rodgers under center moving forward.

Despite coming off a disappointing season and facing a lot of pressure heading into the 2024 NFL season with a healthy Rodgers, Williams’ confidence in the defense is as high as ever.

“We have no ceiling,” Williams said, via NFL on ESPN. “… How can we dominate each and every down on a more consistent level so we can be that No. 1 defense that we all know that we can be.”

If the defense can live up to the hype, and if Rodgers returns healthy and back to form as one of the best quarterbacks in the game, it’ll be interesting to see what the Jets can accomplish during the 2024 campaign.
