The 2025 Volkswagen ID. Buzz, the fully electric descendant of the automaker’s iconic Microbus, arrives stateside later this year with a starting manufacturer’s retail price of $59,995 for the base Pro S model. Along with pricing, VW also revealed range estimates for the 2025 ID. Buzz with rear-drive configurations cruising for an EPA-estimated 234 miles per charge and dual-motor 4Motion all-wheel drive dropping to 231 miles.

The ID. Buzz’s starting MSRP is a fair bit pricier than the vehicle that inspired its aesthetic. A 1967 VW Type 2 retailed for around $2,575 at the height of its popularity or about $25,300 in inflation-adjusted 2024 bucks — but the new model is loaded with a whole lot more tech.

Technology and luxury have come a long way in the 60 years since the Type 2.

The starting price gets you single-motor electric rear-wheel drive and seating for up to seven passengers thanks to its second- and third-row bench seats. (The long wheelbase Buzz we’ll get in the US is 6.9 inches longer than the European-spec two-row model.)  The entry-level model also comes standard with a solid suite of cabin tech that includes a 12.9-inch touchscreen, wireless App-Connect (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) and the automaker’s IQ.Drive driver assistance package.

Starting at $63,495, stepping up to the Pro S Plus model adds power-sliding side doors and a power-lift rear hatch, which are game-changing upgrades for families or older owners with limited mobility. This trim level also includes a head-up display, a surround-view camera system and swaps the standard stereo for a 700-watt, 14-speaker Harman-Kardon audio rig. The Pro S Plus also unlocks an optional 4Motion dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain upgrade, which bumps that MSRP to $67,995. Choosing AWD also swaps the second-row bench seat for captain’s chairs, dropping total passenger capacity to six souls, but improving comfort for the trade.

Limited to the launch window, the ID. Buzz First Edition model tops the lineup, starting at $65,495 with rear-drive or $69,995 with 4Motion. Its loadout is nigh-identical to that of the Pro S Plus spec with the addition of a unique design for its 20-inch wheels, standard roof rails with cross bars, “First Edition” exterior badging and the coastal-inspired interior design motif with heritage floor mats. The First Edition Buzz also comes standard with an electrochromic glass roof that transitions from transparent to opaque at the touch of a button — a feature that’s a $1,495 option for the post-launch Pro S Plus.
