Something happened in the 2024 NFL Draft that has never happened before in the league’s history, with six quarterbacks being taken in the first round, from Caleb Williams going to the Chicago Bears at No. 1 down to Bo Nix landing with the Denver Broncos at No. 12.

The first round of the draft was dominated by offensive players, with it being a deep draft class at quarterback as well as a wide receiver, and teams with needs at those positions were nervous heading into the draft day as they hoped they’d be able to get their guy and improve their respective football teams.

With the Russell Wilson experiment being a massive failure for the Denver Broncos, the team headed into the draft with its sights set on bringing in a quarterback at No. 12 overall, with hopes of the University of Oregon product falling into its laps.

Fortunately for head coach Sean Payton and company, that’s precisely what happened with five other quarterbacks being selected before they were on the clock and Nix still being available.

Now that the Broncos seemed to have gotten a gem with Nix, Payton reflected on the draft process and how he was sweating it out, hoping no other team would take Nix via The Athletic.

Fortunately for Denver, everything worked out the way the team and its head coach hoped it would, and it seems like a matter of time before the Broncos name the rookie their starting quarterback for Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

If Nix gets the nod over Jarrett Stidham, the pressure will be on right out of the gate, with the Broncos desperately wanting a bounce-back year with a promising future ahead with a new face of the franchise under center.
