Despite some concerns heading into the Olympics, the United States men’s basketball team was able to win another gold medal.
Team USA was filled with All-Stars and future Hall of Famers, but they were also led by a coach with lots of experience.
Steve Kerr proved to be the right man for the job, especially seeing how he had a natural rapport with Steph Curry, one of the heroes of this team.
Despite his impact on the team’s medal, Kerr is not likely to be Team USA’s coach in 2028 in Los Angeles.
As Marc Stein recently reported via Bleacher Report, Kerr is “not expected to continue” as their coach moving forward, indicating that Erik Spoelstra and Tyronn Lue are the next in line to take his spot.

Spoelstra and Lue have been looked to as impactful NBA coaches for several years, but international competition has proven to be an entirely different game.
The players have commented on the differences between the NBA and the Olympics, and coaching it is a brand-new beast.
Still, these veteran coaches would have as good of a shot as anyone to lead the team moving forward, especially given how much they are respected across the league.
Players would likely look upon this decision fondly, but it remains to be seen who will ultimately take over.
Until then, players from this year’s roster, and prospective players for the 2028 games will have to keep training, hoping for an opportunity to help win another gold medal.
