The worst-kept secret at Washington Commanders’ camp has now been confirmed.
Head coach Dan Quinn announced Monday that rookie Jayden Daniels will start the season as QB1 and be behind centre when Washington opens the season against the Tampa Bay Buccanneers.
Daniels, 23, was the No. 2 overall pick in last spring’s draft. He played college at LSU and won the Heisman Trophy in 2023.
In his most pre-season start, Daniels completed 10-of-12 passes for 78 yards in a loss to the Dolphins.
“I thought he had another really good outing,” Quinn said after that game. “The accuracy, the decision-making of where to go. He really is a unique competitor.”
Jeff Driskel, Sam Hartman and Marcus Mariota are the other quarterbacks in camp.
