The San Francisco 49ers are in big trouble right now.

One of the absolute best players in his position, and a guy who could make it all fall apart is disgruntled with his contract situation.

They also have issues with Brandon Aiyuk.

They just can’t afford not to have Trent Williams out there.

That’s why it’s a major concern to hear a report from Dianna Russini of The Athletic that states that there has been no significant movement regarding a new deal (via NBC Sports Bay Area).

“There’s been no significant movement there, from what I was told,” Russini said.

The star offensive tackle is arguably the best player in his position in the entire league.

Granted, Aiyuk is a very good player, but the Niners have plenty of ways to make up for that hypothetical loss, should it come down to that.

When it comes to Williams, however, there’s simply no way to replace him.

Williams has been holding out of training camp as he looks to put pressure on the team to get him a new contract.

The Niners’ offense struggled mightily when he wasn’t on the field, and he might be their most crucial offensive player not named Christian McCaffrey.

The team has put together plenty of talent, but that might not be sustainable for much longer, as everybody wants to get paid and they can only offer so much.

The clock is ticking and the season is closing in, and this situation should be at the absolute top of their priority list right now.
