Over the last several years, the San Francisco 49ers have dealt with plenty of key injuries, and this year’s training camp has been no exception.
Star running back Christian McCaffrey has a calf strain, rookie wide receiver Ricky Pearsall has an injured shoulder and defensive end Drake Jackson has been out after undergoing patellar tendon surgery in January.
According to Aaron Wilson, Jackson has now been placed on the reserve physically unable to perform (PUP) list, which means he will be out for the entire season.

While this may not be a major blow for the 49ers, it is a major blow for Jackson, who has been hoping to establish himself as someone worthy of getting more snaps and possibly someone who could start in the future.
He was a second-round draft pick in 2022 out of the University of Southern California, and there was hope he could become a good partner on the defensive line for Nick Bosa, the Niners’ star DE.
While Jackson had 3.0 sacks in his first six games as a rookie, he was limited to eight games last year, and now his NFL career could be in a bit of jeopardy.
Fortunately, San Francisco signed veteran defensive end Leonard Floyd to start opposite Bosa, and he appears to be someone who is up to the task.
He had 10.5 sacks, 19 quarterback hits and nine tackles for loss in 2023 while with the Buffalo Bills, and the 31-year-old could be the pass rush partner Bosa hasn’t had in a while.
