Report: Former Raptors guard Malachi Flynn signs one-year deal with Spurs

Malachi Flynn is changing teams for a third team in a year.

The Toronto Raptors’ 2020 first-round pick signed with the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, according to a report from The Athletic‘s Shams Charania.

Flynn, 26, was dealt by the Raptors to the New York Knicks in last December’s trade alongside OG Anunoby and Precious Achiuwa. Then, in February, he was re-routed to the Detroit Pistons as part of a package for Bojan Bogdanovic and Alec Burks.

The six-foot-one point guard averaged 5.5 points and 1.9 assists on 41.8 per cent shooting from the field in 69 games between all three teams. He set a career-high with a 50-point effort for the Pistons in a game against the Atlanta Hawks in April, knocking down 18 shots to become just the third player to ever reach the half-century mark off the bench.

Now, Flynn will join reigning Rookie of the Year Victor Wembanyama in San Antonio, where he will compete to serve as Chris Paul’s backup.
