New York Yankees ace Gerrit Cole wasn’t able to make his recent scheduled start against the Philadelphia Phillies after reporting general body soreness.
He cited a difficulty recovering between starts, which frightened Yankees fans because a similar thing happened back in spring training when he was forced to miss a couple of months with elbow inflammation.
However, the team clarified that this latest concern wasn’t an elbow issue and preached calm in the middle of the rumors and fears of losing him again.
Cole himself wasn’t too worried, and there is now some good news to report about his health.
“Gerrit Cole reported no issues after throwing today. He’s expected to throw a bullpen Friday and will likely start this weekend vs. the [Toronto Blue] Jays,” YES Network reporter Meredith Marakovits tweeted.

The fact that Cole threw just a day after getting scratched is very encouraging.
Initially, it was believed that Cole would take a few days to recover, but he is back throwing and reporting satisfactory results after the session.
It appears the Yankees have dodged a bullet here, but his next start and how he recovers afterward will be the biggest test.
It’s important to point out that the Yankees, who before the MLB trade deadline brought in Jazz Chisholm Jr. to play the infield plus two relievers, were not able to reinforce the rotation.
A long-term injury for Cole would be catastrophic from just about any angle, but that does not look to be the case here.
The right-hander has a good chance at returning this upcoming weekend and improving on his 5.40 ERA in 35 innings so far this season, coming off his 2023 AL Cy Young Award.
