This past offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers shocked NFL fans after signing both Russell Wilson and Justin Fields.
It was a given that the franchise needed to sign a veteran arm to replace failed former first-round selection Kenny Pickett.
However, signing two possible replacements was not on the radar of most people.
As training camps get underway, it is still up in the air as to which quarterback will start for Pittsburgh in Week 1.
On his daily television and radio show on Monday, Colin Cowherd openly wondered how Wilson fits into the Steelers culture in the first place.
“I wonder about the fit in Pittsburgh.”

During the segment, Cowherd explained that the Steelers under head coach Mike Tomlin is “alpha, loud, drama, and physical.”
“That’s not Russell,” said Cowherd. “Russell’s focused, an adult, can be sort of into Russell Wilson. He’s kind of mature, and I think to some of the younger players, I wonder about the fit in Pittsburgh.”
Cowherd continued that he believes Fields is the better fit with the Steelers roster.
“Justin Fields is young, cooler, athletic, 11 years younger, more athletic, and I think he’s going to connect with a lot of young teammates with the Steelers,” said Cowherd.
Wilson missed the first week of Pittsburgh’s training camp with a calf injury.
That allowed Fields, a former first-round pick of the Chicago Bears, to get snaps with the first-team offense.
As Cowherd alluded to, it doesn’t help that Wilson is 35 and coming off two sub-par seasons with the Denver Broncos.
He did lead the Seattle Seahawks to consecutive Super Bowl appearances, winning one after the 2013 season, but he failed to get the franchise past the divisional round in subsequent years before getting traded to Denver in 2022.
