The San Francisco 49ers have a big issue to sort out after star wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk asked to be traded this week following his fruitless contract extension talks with the organization.

But other than that, there is plenty of reason to be optimistic about the 2024 season for the 49ers as they continue to chase their sixth Super Bowl championship.

Quarterback Brock Purdy took the NFL by storm ever since taking over the starting job in Week 13 of the 2022 season, and it looks like he has a stronger and more rugged physique ahead of the official opening of training camp, per TheSFNiners.

Last offseason, Purdy spent his time rehabbing and recovering from a torn UCL in his throwing elbow that he suffered during the 2022 NFC Championship Game versus the Philadelphia Eagles.

But this offseason, he has been healthy, and thus he has been able to focus on getting better at his craft.

He had a sensational 2023 season, throwing for 4,280 yards and 31 touchdowns while leading the NFL in passer rating, QBR, touchdown rate and yards per pass attempt.

Still, a number of observers around the league continue to erroneously deride him as nothing more than a “game manager” who puts up big numbers only because of talented skill players such as Aiyuk and a brilliant offensive mind in head coach Kyle Shanahan.

He will get another chance to make everyone realize he’s as excellent a quarterback as he is when San Francisco begins their regular season on Sept. 9 versus Aaron Rodgers’ New York Jets.
