Kyle Lowry has had a long and productive NBA career, and although his production has dropped considerably over the past few years, he isn’t done playing in the league.

He became a free agent after the 2023-24 season but remained unsigned several days into the league’s official free agency period.

But now, ESPN insider Adrian Wojnarowski is reporting that Lowry has decided to stay with the Philadelphia 76ers on a one-year contract.

Lowry joined the 76ers during this past season after the Miami Heat traded him to the Charlotte Hornets for Terry Rozier and the Hornets subsequently waived him.

In 23 regular season games with Philadelphia, Lowry averaged 8.0 points and 4.6 assists per game while playing 28.4 minutes per contest. He also shot 40.4 percent from 3-point range for the 76ers.

The 38-year-old can continue to provide depth and veteran leadership off the bench for a Sixers team that has been hoping to seriously contend for a championship for a while.

The Sixers have had a whale of an offseason, landing nine-time All-Star forward Paul George in free agency and adding guard Eric Gordon, big man Andre Drummond and forward Caleb Martin to round out their roster.

If George and 2023 NBA MVP Joel Embiid manage to stay healthy, perhaps this will be the year the Sixers reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time since 2001.

The 76ers haven’t won the NBA championship since the 1982-83 season, back when Julius Erving, Moses Malone, Andrew Toney and Maurice Cheeks led the way to the promised land.
